debris pickup and especially the benefit of it having been monitored as it was going down. this is not a hard dive. this is relatively shallow waters. we don t know how long it will take. but we are not talking months at this stage. we are probably talking a couple of days or weeks to pick up the pieces that they know survived. and i want to just basically based on the reporting and the pushback that people are giving the white house, this was a very smart approach to bringing the balloon down because what they were clearly able to do is get the balloon and in some ways protect what is of most relevance to the united states, which is less the balloon and of course the cargo and what was in it in terms of chinese surveillance capacity. i know it s hard to believe because the chinese were so aggressive in this regard. but this is bad news for the chinese. we essentially have sort of picked up a bunch of tanks and

higher chances of recovering the payload of that balloon completely intact. that is important according to defense officials because they want to snow exactly what is inside that balloon. and u.s. officials who were briefing reporters yesterday said that actually they believe that by shooting it down over the ocean as they did they are going to be able to discover new and important things about china s intelligence gathering and surveillance program and what the chinese were able to discover when that balloon was a actually over u.s. territory. this was a deliberate action by the president and his team. it remains to be seen, given this debris is scattered around seven miles how long telling t it will take to recover it. jasmine wright, shall we know that this very large spy balloon was detected about eight days ago and then in and out of u.s.
