Budget supermarket chain Aldi is set to invest £24 million and create hundreds more jobs in Scotland next year as it takes its number of stores north of the Border beyond the 100 threshold reached in 2021.

HADDINGTON’S new Aldi store will open its doors to customers in the second half of the year. The supermarket giant has confirmed it plans to open several new stores in Scotland during 2021, which will see the number of stores across the country reach 100. The new East Lothian store will be based at Gateside Commerce Park on the town’s western edge and will replace its existing store off Whittingehame Drive, which will close. Aldi also plans to create a further 600 jobs, including 150 roles in its new stores, in a boost to local communities throughout the country. Richard Holloway, regional managing director for Scotland, said: “During an unprecedented year, our Aldi colleagues and thousands of suppliers rose to the challenge of feeding the nation with tremendous skill and courage.
