Ventura resident Jennifer Wahl is counting the days to the fall opening of the city s first fully inclusive play area at Arroyo Verde Park for her 8-year-old Shaun, who uses a wheelchair.
Shaun, who is in third grade at Juanamaria Elementary School, will be able to play with his friends and they will be able to roll him on a variety of play structures. Most playgrounds feature hard-to-access ladders, steps and other areas he can t climb. This new play structure, a ramp rolls right up on top of it, Wahl said. It will be phenomenal. A lot of this is focused on children with disabilities. It really benefits entire families. Even grandparents in wheelchairs could get on a play structure and interact with their grandchildren.
