Largest gas users ordered to drastically cut usage as gas price skyrockets
Kansas Gas Service Tuesday afternoon directed its large commercial customers to reduce their natural gas usage to “‘plant protection mode, citing an effort to prevent gas outages across the state.
That means reducing gas usage within those plants to “its lowest possible level that will keep pipes from freezing and avoid damage to equipment,” according to a Kansas Gas Service news release.
It’s unclear whether the order forced any businesses in Hutchinson to shut down.
The company declined to identify who any of those large users are and The News did not immediately hear back from several large employers contacted.
