toyota vehicles the government did not find any problems that would cause the runaway accelerations which triggered the recall of millions of cars but the same sort of black, bos used in airplanes found that some gas pedals were getting stuck. this finding fueling a push to put the data recorders in all cars. steve centanni live in washington. why is the federal government now recommending those mandatory data reporters go into the car that you drive, steve? reporter: well, jon, ultimately they feel it would lead to saver cars. in the case of the sudden acceleration in toyotas the recorders gave important clues. most cars already have some kind of data recorder although what information is gathered varies depending what car you own. aaa says the black box recorders will save lives by leading to the design of safer cars in the future. event data recorders will allow safety researchers to vastly improve their understanding what happens during crashes.
