He was wearing a green construction vest and a gray sweatshirt when he managed to get away after unleashing mayhem in the new york city subways just before 8:30 a.m. here in brooklyn at the 36st street station. there s videos showing what police officers and the police commissioner says was a man who put on a gas mask as the subway car was going in to the station. he unleashed a gas canister and opened fire. he hit ten people with gunshot wounds. at least five are in critical condition. everyone is expected to survive. 18 people were injured with smoke inhalation and other shrapnel injuries. you can understand the mayhem that we re seeing there. a already law enforcement official says this could have been much worse had the suspect s gun not jammed. luckily it did jam. they found extended ammo magazines as well as extra gas
i think it s too early to suggest that, unfortunately a lot of the equipment, whether it s a vest or what this person was wearing at the time could easily be gotten by individuals on the internet or maybe some secondhand store. so i hate to draw any immediate conclusion as to his dress, who is representing him to anyone. so, i think there are some things to be said, and building on what commissioner kelly just said, this individual has gone out and purchased a gun or acquired a gun. seems to be a gas canister, you need to make efforts to get, so certainly an intent and not just somebody woke up this morning thinking they are going to carry this out. there was some planning to it. so whether it was the vest or whatever they were wearing was part of the disguise, i would probably think it was and don t draw too much what he was wearing as to who he might be.

Did he flee up the stairs? that is unclear at this time. there was also a question about whether or not excuse me. they re trying to move everybody. they want everybody out so they can continue to investigate. it is a bit of a mess. the subway station, if we can zoom in, is is at the corner where the one-way street sign just below it. those are the stairs that lead underground to the subway. we re literally standing on top of the subway station as we speak. it is below our feet and this is where it happened. 8:24 in the morning. it was relatively crowded. these are when people are going to work and this is when the person opened the gas canister and opened fire. they don t know where this man is, if he was working alone. they don t know the motive. they don t know who this person is but they re going to try and figure that out and they re using all the resources they
