it is saturday, may 27th, i m amara walker. i m victor blackwell. good to have you. you re in the cnn newsroom. we begin with debt ceiling negotiations getting down to the wire, as the white house and gop lawmakers are racing against the clock to try to prevent a first-ever u.s. default. congress now has fewer than nine days to pass a deal after treasury secretary janet yellen warned yesterday that the country could hit the debt ceiling by june 5th. sources say negotiators are hoping to announce an agreement as soon as today. but major sticking points remain. on everything from spending caps to work requirements. earlier, i spoke with congresswoman debbie ding whole called for an ent to the back and forth. we cannot be cutting a deal for conservatives, far right conservatives, that are never going to vote for this bill. we need to do something so that we stop this drama, this kabookie dance of going down to the wire on our debt ceiling. cnn is live on the hill this

hello, everyone. thanks for joining me this saturday. i m fredricka whitfield. we begin this hour in washington where right now negotiators are back at the table as they race to end the debt ceiling standoff. republican leaders and white house officials are returning a short time ago, after a marathon session lasted well into the night, the clock is ticking, to get a deal in place, before the u.s. defaults on its loans. the national deficit continues to soar. with no rise to the borrowing limit, the u.s. will default on its loans which could be catastrophic to the economy. the treasury secretary now is saying the deadline for an agreement is just eight days away. but talks are teetering on the brink, with at least one top republican negotiator warning that a deal could come together as soon as today, or fall apart entirely. cnn is following the latest. good morning. you re on capitol hill, and you spoke to the house speaker kevin mccarthy. what did he say? is he optimistic?
abortions after just six weeks. cnn s diane gallagher has been following the story. this, of course, does not strike down this law for good, but it does temporarily block it. how long? and what happens from here? reporter: so, jim, we don t know for how long at this point. the judge today granting that injunction, which temporarily blocks that new abortion law banning most abortions after six weeks from going into effect. i m told the state supreme court can review it or some other legal action by that state court is taken. now, this is something that to people in south carolina sounds familiar because the state supreme court actually did strike down a very similar six-week abortion ban earlier this year. in fact, that was something that was discussed many times, both the house and the senate while they were arguing and debating this particular legislation. with opponents of the legislation saying it was not different enough from that original bill, that original law to sus
