Utah has a new governor. The nation can learn from his civility

Interstate 15 south from Salt Lake City to St. George always looks familiar to a native Utahn like me. What was less familiar this weekend as I drove south to attend Utah’s inauguration ceremony was the digital highway signs that read: “Thank you Gov Herbert. Safe travels.”
Some of the biggest stories to come out of northern Utah County included the announcement and groundbreaking of Intermountainâs Childrenâs Primary hospital in Lehi, the opening of the I-15 Technology Corridor, and the retirement of the general manager at the Utah County staple Lehi Roller Mills.

IHC breaks ground on Lehi Primary Childrenâs Hospital
After the announcement in January that Lehi would be the spot for the new Intermountain Childrenâs Primary Hospital in Utah County, the virtual groundbreaking was celebrated in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Carlos Braceras today as the executive director of the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT).
For the past seven years, Braceras has been responsible for UDOT s more than 1,700 employees and the design, construction and maintenance of Utah s 6,000-mile system of roads and highways.
As a member of Governor-Elect Cox s new cabinet, Braceras will continue to lead UDOT in enhancing the quality of life for all Utahns through transportation. This includes ongoing work to build a smart transportation system that connects communities through roads, transit, and cycling and walking paths. This delicate balance is critical as Utah s population continues its rapid growth.

Teachers, fearful of returning to classrooms during the pandemic, are facing new encouragement and new pressure to go back, raising the prospect that in-person school could resume in many communities before the school year is out.
The Centers for Disease Control recommended Sunday that states prioritize teachers as part of the second group of people eligible for the coronavirus vaccines.
Two days later, Congress cleared a coronavirus aid package with $54 billion for K-12 schools, which, if the president signs it, is expected to help pay expenses associated with in-person education. That could include protective equipment such as masks and plexiglass dividers, upgrades to ventilation systems and additional staffing.
