Canadian Solar joins forces with Windel for 1 4GWp UK solar pipeline

Image: Canadian Solar. Solar giant Canadian Solar and Windel Capital are teaming up for a 1.4GWp pipeline of solar in a bid to boost their UK presence. Having signed a project development agreement for the pipeline, the two companies are expecting the first of these projects to reach ready-to-build status in the second half of 2021. It will be up to Windel to deliver the early-stage projects to ready-to-build status, with Canadian Solar providing funding, support and the procurement of power purchase agreements. The possibility for several of these projects to be co-located with battery storage is also being explored by Windel, with Gary Toomey, managing partner of Windel Capital, stating the firm is “looking forward” to co-developing “clean and affordable solar energy”.

Canadian Solar inks 1 4GW UK PV pipeline deal

Canadian Solar has signed a project development agreement with Windel Capital to co-develop 1400MW of solar projects in the UK. Under the agreement, Windel will deliver 1.4GW of early-stage solar projects under development through to ready-to-build status with Canadian providing funding, support, and the procurement of power purchase agreements. The first projects are expected to reach ready-to-build stages in the second half of 2021. Windel is investigating the suitability for several of these to have battery storage co-located. The company said it secured the 1.4GW pipeline of projects over the course of 18 months. Windel Capital managing director Gary Toomey said: “We are very excited to be working again with Canadian Solar after transacting with them on a 10MW feed-in-tariff / community interest project in Wales.
