Catcher Eric Haase cleared waivers and is heading to the Milwaukee Brewers' Triple-A affiliate in Nashville. The Brewers announced Monday that Haase had been sent outright to Nashville. The 31-year-old Haase was designated for assignment Thursday.
The Kansas City Royals signed Austin Nola to a one-year contract Friday, adding a veteran catcher to provide some insurance behind Salvador Perez alongside young backup Freddie Fermin. The 34-year-old was released from a minor league contract by Milwaukee on Thursday after the Brewers finalized a deal with Gary Sánchez. Kansas City has little depth at catcher behind Perez and Fermin, though outfielder MJ Melendez can play the position.
Gary Sánchez is guaranteed $3 million in his one-year contract with the Milwaukee Brewers, can earn an additional $4 million this year depending on the condition of his right wrist and could make $14 million over two seasons.
Brandon Woodruff is staying with the Milwaukee Brewers after all. The right-hander has finalized a backloaded $17.5 million, two-year contract with Milwaukee that includes a mutual option for the 2026 season. The deal was completed three months after the Brewers allowed the injured pitcher to test free agency rather than tendering him a contract for 2024.
