people here and all of the energy here. reporter: and right now they have been going for about an hour. this is the second demonstration of the day. one truck at a time, protestors are determined to shut down the port of oakland. in part, their strategy is to try and convince the workers here that the demonstrators are on their side the side of the 99%, the working man. we want you to get paid tomorrow. we are doing this for you as well. well, i don t know. they ain t doing it for me because i don t see nothing out of it. i m losing work, so if anything, they are hurting us more than helping us. because now we re a day behind in getting what we need to get accomplished to get home. reporter: she blocked the entrances of certainly port berths. and through the morning there were sporadic rallies and longshoremen got sent home after they tried to cos lines of demonstrators and police. police arrested a couple of demonstrators but the protests were overwhelmingl
they are doing just that tonight. we ll send it back to you guys. all right, thank you very much, jodi hernandez reporting live from frank ogawa applause intra. let s turn to elise kirschner at the port. we ve seen live pictures of hundreds of people walking toward the port. what is the situation where you are right now? reporter: as you can see the protesters have not arrived here. and there were about a dozen or so officers in riot gear. they just took off five minutes ago, we re not sure where they went. i want to show you video of marchers coming from the west oakland bart station. again, to the port. their goal is to try to prevent workers from starting the night shift here. because occupy protesters say they want to cut into the profits of corporations that run the docks. apparently they ve already been successful in doing that. we ve just been able to speak to representatives at the longshore and warehouse union and they say workers will not be coming into work thi
kind of occupy protest. chek this out: it s not fair to the workers who have already lost today. now, the mayor goes on to say on to say that it is being held on hostage after she learned that the protesters will be planning to pull out the longshoremen s 3:00 a.m. shift as you can see it is already underway. they moved from the port s main entrance here about a mile away. it is not on out there and the shift is currently awaiting or trying to be unloaded here after the side. we ll see what will happen. this is an issue we ll continue to file. i m robert lisles, cbs5. across oakland, another occupy protest. check it out. they are calling themselves aqua pie. and this weekend, they set sail on the uss bank, letting it pump you out. we tried to interview them, but they refused. however, they did tell us off camera that they are doing it as a creative way to bring attention back to the occupy movement. california seemed to make higher income earners pay more taxes. the p
police arrested a couple of demonstrators but the protests were overwhelmingly peaceful. and frustrated for truckers who had spent the day waiting to see if this next wave of demonstrations would also block their ache is. the way things are now, i mean it is hard to make a buck. and they are making it hard. but obviously they don t care. you know, i mean they said they are doing it for you, making a point to the corporations. well they should get together with these people and if these people would come and talk to them, maybe things would be different. but this is not the way to go about it. reporter: so i mentioned this morning that some 200 longshoremen were called in to work but three quarters had to go home. 200 is about the number they get for a shift. and now we re hearing for the overnight shift a different situation, no longshoremen were called in. and that doesn t mean the port of oakland is shut down according to port officials, but it does mean the work
