OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Gov. Kevin Stitt on Tuesday announced the appointment of a Norman investment executive to the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents.
If approved by the state Senate, Rick Nagel, 49, would replace Regent Gary Pierson and serve a seven-year term expiring in 2028.
Nagel holds a bachelor-of-science degree in environmental science from OU and is CEO and managing partner of Oklahoma City-based Acorn Growth Companies.
Acorn is an equity firm that invests in aerospace, defense, intelligence and space companies.
Pierson was appointed to the board in 2019 to fill the unexpired term of Regent Billy Wayne Burgess Jr., who had died.
Gov. Kevin Stitt announced the appointment of Acorn Growth Companies CEO and Managing Partner Rick Nagel to the OU Board of Regents on Tuesday morning.Â
According to a press release from the Governorâs office, if approved by the Oklahoma Senate, Nagel will serve a seven-year term expiring March 2028, replacing chair Gary Pierson.Â
Pierson was originally appointed in April 2019 to finish former regent Bill Burgess term after he died in February 2019. In an October 2019 lunch meeting including the seven regents, Anil Gollahalli, OU legal counsel; Drew Neville, contracted attorney; and Chris Purcell, board secretary, the OU Board of Regents selected Pierson to serve as chair effective March 2020.Â

Rick Nagel, CEO and managing partner with Acorn Growth Companies, is Gov. Kevin Stittâs fifth and latest appointee to OUâs seven-member board, Stittâs office said Tuesday. Nagel is an alumnus of OUâs College of Engineering and a Norman resident whose appointment to the board must be approved by the state Senate.

Rick Nagel, 49, is the governor s choice to take over the seat held by Chairman Gary Pierson on the seven-member board, which is the governing body for all OU campuses, Cameron University and Rogers State University.
His appointment is pending state Senate confirmation.
Stitt appointed Pierson in 2019 to fill the unexpired term of Regent Bill Burgess, who died in February of that year.
With Pierson s term ending in 2021, the governor chose Nagel to continue in the seat s next seven-year term until 2028.
