Indiana State Sen. Eddie Melton, D-Gary, declared victory in the Democratic primary race for Gary Mayor on Tuesday night shortly after his opponent, incumbent Mayor Jerome Prince, called to concede.
Voters across Northwest Indiana will have the opportunity to decide who will represent them at the local level on Tuesday as numerous cities and towns will be voting for candidates for council, clerk-treasurer and mayor.
A total of twenty-two candidates from a variety of backgrounds are competing to represent Gary’s six city council districts in the Democratic primary race. Gary primary voters will have between two and six choices for council member when they go to the polls on May 2.
