World s first pop-up airport for electric flying cars, air taxis and delivery drones to launch in Coventry in November backed by a £1.2m Government grant - and it can be installed in a matter of days
Called Air-One, it has been unveiled as part of a joint collaboration between Urban Air Port and Hyundai
The first site will be installed by end of the end of 2021 and located off the A444 near the Ricoh Arena stadium
The former car park will be transformed into an airport with a 14-metre diameter landing platform and runway
Once a flying car, air taxi or drone touches down on the landing pad, it drops the vehicles inside the hanger
The facility, known as Air One, will be built through a partnership involving South Korean car-maker Hyundai.
It is proposed the hub will host electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft, including air taxis and autonomous delivery drones, transporting people and cargo across cities over coming years.

The site, which is being developed by the company Urban Air Port, is set to be unveiled later this year during the Coventry City of Culture celebrations.
It comes after the project was awarded a £1.2 million government grant by the UK Research and Innovation’s Future Flight Challenge (RIFFC), and is expected to attract match-funding from the commercial sector.

A company developing aviation infrastructure for electric and autonomous air vehicles has backing of UK Government and Hyundai
28 Jan 2021
Flying cars could be on the way, with the UK Government having awarded financial support to a company that’s developing aviation infrastructure for electric and autonomous air vehicles with vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) capability.
British firm Urban Air Port’s project ‘Air-One’ will see the world’s first fully operational hub for electric VTOL aircraft - such as cargo drones and flying taxis - set up in Coventry later this year. The company’s broader aim is to provide zero-emission air passenger journeys and deliveries.
