Sometime next year, Kirk Cox will formally become a part of the Virginia House of Delegates history.
And so will Shepherd Stadium in Colonial Heights.
On Monday, the former House speaker and current GOP gubernatorial candidate had his official portrait unveiled at the state Capitol. The House clerk s office will set a date for its hanging in the House chamber.
Cox was Virginia s 55th speaker, and the first Colonial Heights native, the first to graduate from James Madison University and the first public-school teacher.to hold the job. He served from 2018 until earlier this year when the Democrats gained control of the chamber, and he was replaced by Eileen Filler-Corn, the first woman to be a Virginia speaker.
