COVID-19 rates in Ottawa climb on Saturday

  OTTAWA Ottawa Public Health is reporting another jump in new COVID-19 cases and an increase in the per capita rate of infection. OPH said Saturday 133 more people in Ottawa have tested positive for COVID-19, up from 122 new cases on Friday. That increase boosted the per capita rate in the last seven days to more than 55 cases per 100,000 population. The estimated reproduction number the number of additional people each person with COVID-19 infects also increased on Saturday. Across Ontario, the province reported a record-breaking 3,363 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, as well as 2,476 on Friday. The province also reported 95 new deaths linked to COVID-19 in the past 48 hours, with 51 new deaths reported on Friday and 44 new deaths reported on Saturday. 

COVID-19 outbreak declared at City of Ottawa run long-term care home

  OTTAWA A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at the City of Ottawa run Garry J. Armstrong long-term care home. In a memo to Council, Community and Social Services Department General Manager Donna Gray said two staff members at the home tested positive for novel coronavirus. This is the fifth COVID-19 outbreak at the Garry J. Armstrong home. According to the Ottawa Public Health COVID-19 dashboard, 18 staff members and one resident at the home have tested positive for COVID-19 during the five outbreaks. The Centre d accueil Champlain home also remains on lockdown. Three employees have tested positive for COVID-19.

Ottawa surpasses 10,000 cases of COVID-19, test positivity rate jumps to 3 9 per cent

  OTTAWA Ottawa s key COVID-19 indicators continue to rise, as the capital surpasses 10,000 total cases of novel coronavirus during the pandemic. Ottawa Public Health reported 122 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, along with no new deaths linked to the virus. Since the first case of COVID-19 in Ottawa on March 11, there have been 10,051 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa, including 392 deaths. The daily epidemiology report shows a 1.4 per cent increase in Ottawa s positivity rate, while the cases per 100,000 has jumped to 43.4 cases per 100,000 on Friday, from 29.2 cases per 100,000 on Christmas Eve. Ottawa Public Health says Ottawa s positivity rate increased to 3.9 per cent for the period of Dec. 25-31, up from 2.5 per cent for the period Dec. 23-29.  The positivity rate for COVID-19 tests in Ottawa was 1.2 per cent for the week of Dec. 14 to 20.
