Pollard hits 6 sixes in an over as Dananjaya goes from hero to zero

Pollard hits 6 sixes in an over as Dananjaya goes from hero to zero  04 Mar 2021 - 17:48 Pic: Windies Cricket / Twitter Reuters Akila Dananjaya went from hero to zero in the space of two overs, claiming a hat-trick before being smashed for six sixes by Kieron Pollard as West Indies beat Sri Lanka by four wickets in their first Twenty20 international at Antigua on Wednesday. Pollard strode out to the crease in the fourth over after Dananjaya had dismissed Evin Lewis, Chris Gayle and Nicholas Pooran off consecutive deliveries to leave West Indies reeling at 52-3 in pursuit of 132. But the West Indies skipper tore into unconventional off-spinner Dananjaya in his next over, taking 36 runs and becoming only the third man to hit six sixes in an international match, emulating Herschelle Gibbs and Yuvraj Singh.

Best: Clive Lloyd puts GOAT mouth on Holder’s time as WI leader; will Pollard replace him? Ahnhahn! “If I were a selector,” said Sir Clive Lloyd last week, “obviously Kraigg (Brathwaite) would be slightly ahead of Jason (Holder) because of what he has done with the team they have there.” “I’m sure Jason is not a guy,” he added, “who will say ‘I’ve got a bad deal or a raw deal.’” Photo: West Indies cricket legend Sir Clive Lloyd. The hard-hitting southpaw was, I think, pulling his punches. Frank Worrell, with his West Indies cricketing hero status and his nine-out-of-15 wins record is the WI captaincy GOAT. But none begrudge Lloyd, who won 36 of his 74 matches in charge, the title of ‘Most Successful’.
