An educator, civil rights activist, a community leader: That is how a family friend describes the former president of the Spokane Coalition for Human Rights, Denny Yasuhara.
He is one of the name sakes of three new SPS middle schools. They will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the Denny Yasuhara Middle School, Wednesday at 4 p.m. The construction will cause some delays at the intersection of East Foothills Drive and Hamilton Street. The entrance to the construction site is on Perry Street just off North Foothills Drive.
SPS middle and high school students return to in-person hybrid learning

SPOKANE, Wash. Students at every grade level with Spokane Public Schools are now back to some form of in-person learning.
It’s the moment students and teachers have been waiting for since COVID-19 forced schools to shut their doors.
“Teaching during the pandemic has been one of the most interesting and challenging times in my teaching career,” Cheri Hacker, History Teacher at Garry Middle School.
As an educator for over 23 years, she says the hardest part of this pandemic has been connecting with her students.

Her family says the bus company, Durham School Services, has given no explanation.
Fourteen-year-old Sienna can’t do too much on her own.
“She is autistic, partial non-verbal. She also has epilepsy,” said her mother, Anne Caberto.
She’s an 8th grader at Garry Middle School and last Friday, the bus she always rides was supposed to drop her off at home at 12:39 p.m. Caberto started getting worried by 1 p.m., so she called the bus company.
“Talked to me and said ‘your daughter was never on the bus,” said Caberto.
Terrified, she called her daughter’s school.
