This week s History Guy video at CJOnline focuses on Cushinberry, who was born 100 years ago this year, on Oct. 24, 1921.
Cushinberry grew up at Hoisington in central Kansas, then served as a combat medic in World War II before moving to Topeka.
He became the driving force behind God s Little Half Acre, a garden and donations clearinghouse at 1835 S.W. Fillmore where countless people in need received food, clothing and other necessities for nearly 30 years until it closed in January 2000.
Cushinberry also worked with sponsors to arrange for underprivileged children to attend fairs, ballgames and circuses.
