Florida Baseball Welcomes Georgia State for Midweek Meeting
The No. 5 Florida Gators baseball team (9-3) welcomes Georgia State (4-9) for a Tuesday night game in Florida Ballpark.
The Gators’ offense came to life in their weekend sweep over Florida A&M. After taking both games in the Friday doubleheader (10-2 in Game 1 and 5-1 in Game 2), the Gators completed the sweep on Sunday with an 8-0 victory.
It was a chilly Wednesday night, but the Florida Atlantic University (FAU) dugout brought the heat. The Owls were energetic from start to finish and it shows in how this game ended as FAU beat Florida 3-2 to drop the Gator record to 6-3 on the year. It was a low-scoring game fueled by good pitching. Franco Aleman takes the loss for the Gators giving up the winning run in the 10th inning.
After coming off a walk-off sweep over Samford with plenty of high-scoring finishes, the Wednesday night loss was atypical for the Orange and Blue.
Silent Night
So far this season, the one consistent thing for the Gators has been their offense. The lowest amount of runs Florida put on the scoreboard this season has been six in a loss to Miami. On Wednesday, they did not even get half that. Jacob Young provides energy to the offense yet again with two hits.
On the Mound:
Taking the mound for the Gators on Tuesday will be right-handed pitcher Garrett Milchin. Milchin’s journey with the Gators has been anything but easy. His last appearance came in Omaha in 2017 where he pulled himself off the mound following an injury. He had suffered a UCL tear and underwent Tommy John surgery before suffering the same injury again in 2019. Being just one of two players present on the 2017 championship team, Milchin has had his taste of success. But, an even heavier dose of adversity. Tuesday will mark a milestone in his journey back to the mound and the start of a new page in his career. He is most admired by his teammates and staff for his attitude and leadership. It will be an inspirational moment and a testament to overcoming adversity as the righty takes the mound.
