Used to be our local, so we re prejudiced but it really deserves its spot on the list. The quite cramped inside space is dwarfed by the sprawling beer garden nearly always rammed (or as rammed as Covid-safety allows), with Brixton locals coming for the shack bars serving wine and cocktails, and outdoor screens for major sports events like the Euros.
As you re leaving the station, East Croydon looks immensely urban, scattered with (very good) street food and (mixed bag of) high rises and skyscrapers. But just a few minutes walk away you re in a different world: neighbourhoody, terraced and tree-lined, occasional splash of wisteria and blossom trees and a solid local, in the shape of the Oval Tavern.
Police are continuing to search for a wanted man who failed to appear at court. Ridwan Ali, aged 23, is wanted by policed for failing to appear at court on October 30 to answer two charges of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving without insurance. Ali, whose last known address was in Northwick Road around Alperton and Wembley, was meant to appear at court after a road traffic collision on Garratt Lane in Wandsworth on July 21 last year. A warrant for Ali s arrest was issued by the court when he failed to appear. Now seven months later, the Metropolitan Police have renewed an appeal in hopes to find him.

Police are renewing appeals for information to trace a Wembley man who failed to appear at court.
Ridwan Ali, 23, whose last known address is in Northwick Road, failed to appear at Kingston Crown Court on October 30 last year.
He was due to answer two charges of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving without insurance, Scotland Yard said.
The charges relate to a road traffic collision on Garratt Lane in Wandsworth on July 21 2020.
It is now believed that he may have travelled to the Manchester area.
