Montana Wildfire Update For July 30, 2021

South Yaak Fire burning 4 miles northwest of Troy. The following areas are now under pre-evacuation warning: Yaak River Road Hwy 508, from the Highway 2 intersection to the Sylvanite Work Center. Pine Creek Road 395, from the Yaak 508 intersection, north to Curly Horse Lane. All of Seventeen Mile Road 471. The Sheriff’s Office says residents should be making final preparation for the possible evacuation of these areas and deputies will start visiting each property in the pre-evacuation area to take resident information. The South Yaak fire is burning 4,100 acres and is about 20 & contained. The Anderson Hill Fire that burned 750 acres in Granite and Powell counties one mile southeast of the Garnet Ghost Town is now 100% contained, according to the Montana Department of Natural Resources & Conservation. Garnet Ghost Town reopens to the public

Garnet Ghost Town is once again open for visitors after the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) issued a new area closure near the Anderson Hill Fire. MTN News The BLM closed Garnet Ghost Town on July 16, the day after the fire was reported within a mile of the historic site. A Type 3 Incident Management Team assumed command of the fire the following day. The blaze was reported to be fully contained on Monday and the BLM determined it was safe to re-open the ghost town to visitors.

Lincoln County Evacuation Orders The Kootenai National Forest says evacuations are underway in Lincoln County where the South Yaak Fire has spread northward. According to an incident update from the Kootenai National Forest around 1:30 this afternoon, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is evacuating residents on East side Road, west of the fire. The Sheriff s office says the mandatory evacuation order for Eastside Road near Troy only applies to residences north of mile marker 3. Affected residents in that area will be contacted by deputies. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office says it’s receding the mandatory evaluation order for Kilbrennan Lake Road. Residents there remain in a pre-evacuation status and must be prepared to evacuate if requested.
