West Plains, MO. - The West Plains City Council held a special session last night at city hall and passed the city property tax for 2022. This is not a new tax but an update to the existing property tax that must be passed yearly. The maximum property tax that a city can pass is determined by the State Auditor of Missouri. The property tax for 2021 was $0.3091 per $100 of assessed valuation. With the passage of Bill 4720, the property tax for 2022 is $0.3106 per $100 of assessed valuation, an increase of $0.0015 per $100 of assessed valuation. This means if you owned $100,000 of assessable property, your yearly tax would increase by $150. For those who don't own much, such as a person who owns a car valued at $4,000 and rents, their property tax would increase by $6. The city also passed Bill 4719 that is an annual requirement by the state that certain conflicts of interest must be disclosed, and Bill 4718 that modifies Tourist Development Advisory Council term limits and meeting
