Garden City fire marshal rescues child s favorite stuffed tiger after apartment fire

(WXYZ) â A 7-year-old girl from Garden City has her best friend back thanks to the kindness of the Garden City Fire Department.
The girlâs grandfather, Daryl Aspery, said Khaleesi Champion was spending time at his house while her mother was working in their place at Bentley Square Apartments on March 10 when a fire started in the complex.

Darylâs daughter was able to make it out OK, but officials say the structural integrity of the building was comprised and it wasnât safe for residents to go back in after the fire to retrieve belongings.

Garden City apartment fire forces multiple residents into the street
An apartment fire in Garden City has forced several residents out of their home after the blaze tore through the Bently Square Apartments. Dozens are now displaced as a result.
The area fire chief said smoke had completely permeated through the building and fire had gotten under the floors, an indication that things started on the first floor. We had to evacuate because conditions deteriorated rapidly and we just had a breach again, said Garden City Fire Lt. Daniel Neault.
