BPL says all of mainland Abaco has power restored

ABACO, BAHAMAS More than a year after Hurricane Dorian, power has returned to all of mainland Abaco, according to Bahamas Power and Light (BPL). In an update released yesterday, BPL said it was “pleased to announce that all of mainland Abaco is now powered from two sites Coopers Town Power Station (CTPS) and Wilson City Power Station (WCPS)”. “CTPS is now energizing overhead lines from Crown Haven to Leisure Lee,” the company said. “On January 21, Red Bay Subdivision became the last mainland settlement to have power (or access to power). “It should be noted that the power is now available and accessible across the mainland [but] it is up to customers and the Ministry of Works to ensure that customers are able to connect to the power that is now available.”

BPL ramps up transmission improvement efforts on Abaco – Eye Witness News

(PHOTO: CHAIYAPRUEK YOUPRASERT VIA SHUTTERSTOCK) NASSAU, BAHAMAS Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) is “ramping up” efforts to rebuild and improve its transmission network on Abaco, the company said yesterday. In a statement giving an update on progress in restoring electricity to the island that was knocked out during Hurricane Dorian in September 2019, BPL said continues “working to restore supply to a number of cays, repairing or preparing to replace subsea cables damaged by the storm”. According to the statement, BPL teams are continuing work to connect lines from the cays to the mainland to eliminate the need for temporary generation, as well as installing nearly 200 streetlights on the mainland and cays.
