Festival of Fair Trade This holiday season, you can shop globally and locally with a trip to Kizuri’s annual Festival of Fair Trade, now in its 38th year. Handcrafted items showcased during the three-day event at the downtown Spokane shop are sourced from around the globe from such countries as Guatemala, Nepal, Chile and beyond. Co-hosted by Ganesh Himal Trading, the marketplace directly supports artisans producing these one-of-a-kind handcrafted goods by paying them fair wages and distributing their beautiful wares for our enjoyment. While there’s a whole range of items to be found, popular gift options include handmade jewelry, clothing, handbags, knitwear, scarves and more. This year’s festival also coincides with Kizuri’s recent 15th anniversary, no minor feat for a small local business.
Festival of Fair Trade When buying material items, we rarely think about the work that went into making them, whether the person who crafted them was paid a fair wage and what their working conditions look like. The Festival of Fair Trade, hosted by Ganesh Himal Trading and Kizuri, is an annual marketplace full of handicrafts that, when purchased, can support local importers who pay artisans fair wages and make a big difference in the life of a hardworking artisan. Not only is this event a celebration of fair working conditions, wages and labor laws, but it also celebrates the global community by including handmade jewelry, clothing and bags from makers in Nepal, Chile, Guatemala and many other countries.
