ROURKELA/BHUBANESWAR: A suspected leak of toxic gas at SAIL s Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) killed four contractual workers on Wednesday. SAIL has formed a three-member inquiry committee to probe the deaths besides suspending two officers on finding prima facie lapses by them, report Mihir Ray and Ashok Pradhan. All emergency protocols have been activated in the plant, a statement from the steel authority said. A spokesperson of the plant said the four deceased - who were the only ones present at the site when the suspected gas leak took place - had been employed by M/s Star Constructions for maintenance work in the coal chemicals department of the factory.

ROURKELA: At least four contract labourers working in Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) died following a suspected toxic gas leak in the plant on Wednesday.
The four contract workers of M/s Star Constructions working in the coal chemicals department of Rourkela Steel Plant were among more than 10 people felt unwell at about 9am following the suspected coke oven gas leak.
Official sources said all the affected were shifted to Ispat General Hospital. Sources said the doctors declared the four dead at 11.40am.
A high-level committee has been formed to inquire into the cause of the incident. The plant is functioning normally.
