BBMP) plans to cut as many as 120 massive
eucalyptus trees, which are located in the premises of 7.5 acre
National Military Memorial (NMM) Park, adjacent to
Indira Gandhi Musical Fountain park in the heart of the city. These massive trees, sources say, will be axed to make space for the installation of a MiG fighter plane.
“Some development work is currently underway. Since the Eucalyptus trees are old and known for reducing the groundwater table, we will be removing these trees and planting over nearly 400 medicinal plants in the park premises,” Ranganath Swamy, Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF), BBMP told Bangalore Mirror.
