MARAN (Bernama): Bentong is set to become the second city in Pahang after Kuantan, with the process of upgrading the Bentong Municipal Council expected to be completed by this year, says Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin.
She said the upgrade process was now at the administrative level, which required the state government to make an application to the Federal Government, and it would then take several months before it is approved by the Cabinet. Bentong has met the criteria to be elevated to city status in terms of income, but has not reached the required population of more than 500,000 people. We will see if some flexibility can be given taking into account the development being carried out there, she said.

UiTM s second large scale solar photovoltaic plant in Pasir Gudang, Johor has started commercial operations.
KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) has made its mark in Malaysia as the only university to own and operate two large scale solar photovoltaic (LSSPV) plants with combined renewable energy generation capacity of 75MWac (92.58 MWp)
It said in a statement on Friday its second LSSPV plant in Pasir Gudang, Johor has started commercial operations.
This new LSSPV plant will augment the 61MWp LSSPV plant in Gambang, Pahang which began its commercial operations in April 2019.
The planned development of 66MW of on-campus rooftop solar power generating systems which will be in full commercial operations by the end of 2022.

Flood waters on the East Coast Highway (LPT1) is not receding, and the main connection between the east and west coasts of Peninsular Malaysia is still not passable to traffic at various points.
According to LPT1 operator Anih Berhad in its status update this noon, another stretch is now flooded, and it’s KM 126.3 between Chenor and Temerloh. Here, the highway has been closed in both directions since 2.30am today. This is in addition the Temerloh-Lanchang stretch (KM 113 to KM 115), which is still closed to traffic in both directions.
No change at the Lanchang to Karak stretch (KM 84.6), where KL-bound lanes have been open to traffic since the morning of January 5. The eastbound lanes to Kuantan remain closed.
