Prior to 1961, public performance of Irish traditional music in Galway took place primarily in the form of céilís in large dancehalls — namely in the Hangar, the Commercial and the Astaire. These were enormously popular — remember the hundreds of bicycles parked outside the Hangar on a Sunday night — but they began to go out of fashion in the sixties and were regarded as old fashioned and backward.

Four ticket buyers started the weekend off with a big win.
Mass Cash tickets sold in sold in Plymouth, Manomet, Taunton and Tewksbury were all winners in Friday night’s drawing. Each ticket was worth $100,000.
The first ticket was sold at Galway Pub in Plymouth, located at 58 Court St. The second ticket was sold at Village General Store in Manomet, located at 700 State Rd. The third ticket was sold at Taunton Food Mart in Taunton, located at 12 Washington St. The final ticket was sold at Richdale in Tewksbury, located at 1899 Main St Unit 3.
