Fireworks for a good cause

The three fireworks booths in Galt this year opening June 28 will be TNT vendors run by Kiwanis Club, Galt Youth Baseball (GYB) and Calvary Life Tabernacle Church, raising money for their volunteer driven organizations. The only three booths allowed within the city limits are located in the public parking lot near the digital highway sign at the corner of Caroline Avenue and Fairway Drive. Kiwanis Club is focused on serving youth and the underprivileged in Galt. “All the money goes to kids and people in need in the community,” Kiwanis Club President Elizabeth Haglund said. During their nearly 30-year existence, the club has been focused on helping the underprivileged, specifically children, with their different programs throughout the year.

Holiday spirit shines at Muffins with Santa event

Many events have been canceled or postponed this year due to the pandemic, but how do you cancel a visit from Santa? City of Galt staff said, you don’t – you just change how it works. In an effort to maintain the holiday spirit, Special Events Manager Jackie Garcia took the annual Breakfast with Santa event and changed it into a picture opportunity, complete with friends from the North Pole, muffins and craft projects. “We wanted to make sure we were able to provide a safe and fun family holiday experience during this unprecedented time,” Garcia said. “Our hope was to retain the holiday spirit that brings so much to our community.”
