Two Minnesota lawmakers and a friend of Prince are working on getting a stretch of Highway 5 through Chanhassen renamed after Prince. If this goes through, the 7 mile stretch between 494 and Galpin Drive would be named the Prince Rogers Nelson Memorial Highway. Sen. Julia Coleman, R-Chanhassen, and Rep. Greg Boe, R-Chanhassen, are drafting bills, writes the Star Tribune. And a long-time friend of Prince, Mark Webster, who is a security guard at Paisley Park, has a petition on change.org working to get to 5,000 signatures to get this name change to happen. Right now they have over 3,500 and it keeps climbing.

State lawmakers are proposing legislation intended to rename a segment of Highway Five near Chanhassen after the late artist, Prince. State Representative Greg Boe says Prince is a favorite son on the Chanhassen side of the metro, and the community is proud to have him. The plan is to have seven miles of Highway Five between Interstate-494 and Galpin Drive be designated the Prince Rogers Nelson Memorial Highway. However, some barriers are in the way of the initiative as a portion of the highway is already named the Augie Mueller Memorial Highway after a former state senator. Multiple bills are being worked on due to that issue, and officials hope the Mueller family will be willing to give up part of their highway to make room for the late pop star’s segment.
