Nominations open for fifth Tendring Youth Awards

Glitzy - the Tendring Youth Awards was last held in 2019 NOMINATIONS have opened for the fifth Tendring Youth Awards. The awards aim to celebrate achievements by inspiring young people who live, study or work in Tendring, across a wide range of categories, as well as adults who support them. Last year the awards had to be cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic and this year the ceremony, which usually takes place in July, will instead be held in October. To make sure that no-one is disadvantaged by the cancellation of last year’s awards, the age criteria for 2021 has been extended in each category by a year, while any early nominations submitted in 2020 will be carried forward.

Young artist picked to ink Octopus for public art trail

Alana Fensom painting Octavious A YOUNG artist from Harwich has been handpicked to paint an Octopus sculpture that will form part of a public art trail. Alana Fensom, 17, was one of hundreds of artists who submitted designs to be part of the Octopus Ahoy! trail. Her submission, called ‘Octavious’, stood out from the crowd. She was picked by sponsor Galloper Wind Farm to complete the sculpture. The design highlights the theme of love and reflects the importance of art, colour and Alana’s involvement as an army cadet. The Colchester Institute student will now be tasked with completing the 4ft-by-4ft sculpture before it hits the streets of Tendring from June 25 to September 5.

Budget comes under fire for lack of green focus

East Anglian businesses are asking what has become of the green recovery following the budget - Credit: Siemens Regional businesses hoping for a big green recovery boost from the Budget say they have been left underwhelmed. Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced a new UK Infrastructure Bank to fund green growth in his budget - but East of England companies involved in the sector feel his announcements failed to live up to their hopes. Lloyd Felton, chief executive of County Broadband - which is installing full-fibre broadband networks across rural parts of the East of England - welcomed the new UK Infrastructure Bank but suspected it would not help in the roll-out of a superfast network across harder-to-reach areas such as those in East Anglia.
