As an Orlando native, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings recalls how Walt Disney envisioned EPCOT as a futuristic experimental prototype community of tomorrow starting with a robust transportation system.
Wednesday, Demings addressed a crowd within the towering steel framework of Brightline s future 154,500-square-foot higher-speed train maintenance facility, just south of Orlando International Airport.
And Demings commended Brightline for reaching 55% construction completion of its 170-mile expansion from the airport to South Florida, which will send passenger trains zipping across the Space Coast and Treasure Coast. It s been a challenging year for all of us. We saw our economy dip significantly. But this is a good indicator that we are going to recover quickly, Demings said, referring to the COVID-19 pandemic.
