A 21-year-old Houma man accused of killing a teenager in a park five years ago has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.
Kentrell Gaither Jr. pleaded guilty to manslaughter Jan. 22 and was sentenced to 10 years in prison, court records show. He was originally charged in 2018 with the second-degree murder of 17-year-old Roderick Davis Jr. of Houma.
The teen was found shot to death in Scott Lane Park about 5 a.m. July 11, 2016, authorities said. Investigators believed the shooting occurred around 11 the previous night.
After Davis had entered the park with three others, an argument broke out that led to gunfire, Houma Police said. However, investigators believe only two suspects were the shooters.
