Global COVID-19 cases dropped 17 per cent last week, WHO says

The number of new coronavirus cases reported across the globe has declined for a fourth week in a row, according to data from the World Health Organisation (WHO), offering a glimmer of hope the world is turning a corner in its efforts to contain the pandemic. The number of COVID-19 deaths reported worldwide decreased for the second week running, with 88,000 new deaths reported last week, a 10 per cent drop compared to the previous week, according to WHO. However, they are all relatively close to each other and there had been concerns that some people could be put off by difficult journeys to them

The Suffolk and north east Essex Integrated Care System, responsible for the deployment of the vaccine in all areas of the county except for Waveney, has announced all 13 of the centres set to begin opening from Monday (January 11). Sites include existing GP surgeries and medical centres, while specialist vaccination centres are also being opened in settings such as village community halls. They join both Ipswich and West Suffolk hospitals in administering the vaccine, further GP surgeries and a proposed site at Gainsborough Sports Centre.
