COUNCILLORS will meet next week to decide on plans to convert a vacant former Chester pub site into a community centre and retail unit. The proposal for the old Dee Miller pub in Kingsway, which has been empty since February 2018, is recommended for approval. Members of Cheshire West and Chester Council s planning committee will rule on the application for the change of use and extension of the public house on Thursday, July 22. Back in 2019 the University of Chester put forward plans to turn the site into a sports and social club, as well as a rehearsal studio, but the scheme was deferred by councillors after residents raised concerns that they would be excluded from their own community venue.
PROPOSED measures to prevent pigeons pooing in Chester historic Water Tower in Boughton have been given the green light. Last month we reported that construction and property consultants Summers-Inman, on behalf of Severn Trent Water, had submitted a listed building consent application to place anti-bird netting on gaps where pigeons have been getting into the 19th century, Grade II-listed water tower, at the Boughton Water Treatment Works. Those plans have now been approved by Cheshire West and Chester Council. In a design and access statement, Summers-Inman said that an inspection was carried out at the site and found pigeons were entering the building through several locations.
PLANS to convert empty offices by The Cross in Chester into a boutique hotel and spa – complete with a rooftop pool – have been given the go-ahead. The proposal, which also includes a bar and restaurant with outdoor seating on the historic Rows as well as a lift tower and roof terrace, were rubber stamped by Cheshire West and Chester Council today (March 6). It will be acquiring a long lease on the prominent and historic property which spans 2-8 Bridge Street, 2-8 Bridge Street Row West, and 3 Watergate Street. In a report recommending approval, council case officer Gail Nickson said: It is proposed to change the use of the upper levels of the building to a boutique hotel including bar, restaurant and spa.
