Admission Is Free Sunday At Cahoon Museum

The Cahoon Museum of American Art is opening a new exhibition, “Shape Shifters: Jackie deRuyter|Kate Nelson,” with an opportunity to meet the artists at the museum’s spring open house on Sunday, May 2, from 10 AM to 4 PM. In “Shape Shifters,” Brewster artists Jackie deRuyter and Kate Nelson present their most recent abstract paintings and sculptures in a colorful, bright, and uplifting exhibition that runs through June 5. Ms. deRuyter’s sculptures are created by using an innovative process that transforms flat, hand-painted fabric and canvas into dynamic three-dimensional forms. The artist first developed her complex process for making sculpture 15 years ago, when she began creating stitched, stiff fabric that she then sewed into curved, freestanding shapes. Current
