South African actor Sam Phillips has died at the age of 72.

Veteran actor, director and music composer Sam Phillips has died.
The 72-year-old actor was best known for his role as Odwa on SABC1 drama series,
Soul City.
Mpumi told
Daily Sun they are saddened by his passing.
“It is with our deepest sorrow that we inform you of the passing of Sam Phillips. He passed away in the early hours of the morning, 16 January, in hospital.
“He will fondly be remembered for his smile and efforts within the South African arts, but mostly for being a fearless inspiration and example,” she said.
