"Zone defense is a main part of Syracuse lacrosse and we love being able to get after teams.” After being forced to switch to man-to-man defense against Northwestern, No. 5 Syracuse reestablished its zone in its win over No. 18 Army.
Concord-Carlisle girls lacrosse dominates Wayland in season opener
Special to The Journal
Six-hundred and ninety-two (692) days is a long time to wait to play your next game. But following a nearly two-year, pandemic-induced layoff, the Concord-Carlisle girls lacrosse team returned to the field with a decisive 19-9, season-opening win against Dual County League rival Wayland last Thursday, May 6, at Memorial Field.
Leading the Patriots (1-0) were junior midfielder Becca Dibble and junior attacker Audrey Mirak, who scored five goals each.
CCHS jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead, but Wayland answered with three goals in just over a minute to tie the score at the end of the first quarter. This being the first game of the season, neither side was finding its rhythm, and the teams traded goals for most of the second quarter. With just over four minutes left in the half, the score was tied 6-6.
