Metlink supports Māori Warden’s kaupapa by providing free public transport for on-duty Wardens, enabling them to move around the region with ease as they undertake crime prevention.
On-duty Māori wardens wearing a uniform are welcome to travel free on all Metlink bus and rail services while carrying out their duties.
Metlink General Manager Scott Gallacher says Metlink recognises Māori Wardens as an important thread in the fabric of Wellington, promoting a safer region for everyone.

The Wainuiomata Local Board has reversed its decision to name a street after the suburb’s first and only mayor.
The Wainuiomata Local Board has reversed its decision to name a street after the suburb’s first and only mayor.
Board chair Gabriel Tupou says he and another member were unable to attend the February 15 meeting because they were in self-isolation.
Because of the community upset over the decision, there was unanimous agreement to hold a special meeting last Monday.

Wainuiomata Community Board chairman Gabriel Tupou at the extraordinary meeting in which the naming of a new street after the suburb s former mayor Harry Martin was revoked in favour of Te Ara Raukura – a nod to the mana whenua.
Harry Martin Lane’s tenure as a street in the Wainuiomata shopping precinct was shorter than its namesake’s time as mayor.
Just over a fortnight after the street was named after the suburb’s only mayor, which formerly had its own council, the Wainuiomata Community Board has overturned its choice in favour of Te Ara Raukura to acknowledge the area’s mana whenua. The under-construction street will link The Strand with Queen St.
