Drug driving arrest, vehicles seized and drivers reported during police s County Ground traffic stops

POLICE arrested a man for drug driving, seized two vehicles and reported four other drivers for various offences while carrying out traffic checks at the County Ground. The Swindon response team stopped 50 vehicles  during the operation which was carried out to ensure that vehicles were roadworthy and legal and targeted those being driven without insurance. They checked lights, tyres, documents and other essentials. Officers arrested a 32-year-old man for driving under the influence of drugs and possession of a Class B drug. He is currently in custody at Gablecross Police Station. The team issued a driver with a vehicle defect ticket for driving on worn out tyres, reported three others for driving without insurance, reported one driver for driving without a licence, and seized two vehicles in one afternoon.

Swindon paramedics attacked by man with knife on Christmas Day

The crew fled to their ambulance, which was then driven into during the incident in the centre of Swindon. A 39 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray, criminal damage and drink driving. Insp Steve Love, of Wiltshire Police, said it was a sad reality that emergency workers feared for their safety on a daily basis . In a statement police said South Western Ambulance Service were called to an address in Morse Street at about 16:30 GMT.

Arrest after man is seen with gun in town centre

A 31-year-old has been arrested after armed police raced to the town centre at 12.30pm in response to reports of a man seen with a gun.  A local man was arrested on suspicion of having a firearm in a public place at The Parade and an air rifle was recovered.  He was taken to custody at Gablecross Police Station. Det Sgt Justin Downes said:  The public may have seen lots of police officers around the town today responding to this incident.  I want to reassure people that this was dealt with quickly and we have arrested a local man.  As this took place in the middle of the day, in a busy part of Swindon, I would like to appeal to anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious.”
