TinCaps set to face Lake County

the Fort Wayne TinCaps will play host the Lake County Captains tonight in the fifth game of a six game series.
Gabe Mosser will start for the TinCaps (24-33), with Hunter Gaddis taking the ball first for Lake County (32-26).
Katie Hortsman, who played for the Fort Wayne Daisies from 1951-54, is scheduled to throw out ceremonial first pitch. The Minster, Ohio native grew up about 65 miles from Fort Wayne and batted .286 in 308 career games. Hortsman also served as a consultant for the movie “A League Of Their Own”, which featured the likes of Madonna and Tom Hanks and profiled the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.

Early homers propel TinCaps

FORT WAYNE – While fans attending Saturday’s High-A Central contest at Parkview Field were treated to postgame fireworks, the Fort Wayne TinCaps provided some early explosions of their own, riding a two-run home run in each of the first two innings before holding on for a 5-4 victory over the Lake County Captains.
“The way we’ve been playing, I think it’s huge,” TinCaps manager Anthony Contreras said. “We want to score early, it gives us a bit of a cushion. It’s extremely important to gain a little confidence.”

The crowd at Parkview Field on Saturday night was 40% larger than any other this season and it made its presence felt many times during an eventual 8-6 TinCaps loss to the Great Lakes Loons. The gathering at the downtown stadium will be even larger tonight as America celebrates its 245th birthday; the TinCaps are hosting their traditional Fourth of July game. Just two nights after more than 10,000 fans packed Memorial Coliseum to watch the Komets win the Kelly Cup, the TinCaps are expecting in excess of 7,000 fans at their game tonight. It has been a banner week for Fort Wayne sports fandom. A reminder: first pitch is at 6:05 p.m. tonight, rather than the usual 7:05.
