Music is important to the Berkshires, and organizers of the New England Musicians Relief Fund want to make sure the freelance professional musicians who bring it to audiences are still around long after this pandemic.
Chris Smither, Samirah Evans, Peter Mulvey, John Medeski and many more will take part in a streaming benefit concert âBerkshire Sounds: A Bash to Bring Back Music to Western Massachusetts and the Hudson Valley.â Hosted by Signature Sounds, the show will feature an eclectic mix of musicians from across western Massachusetts and New Yorkâs Hudson Valley. All proceeds will go to the New England Musicians Relief Fund, an organization that provides grants to working musicians facing financial difficulties.

By almost any measure, keyboardist Wesley Nagy was doing pretty well.
The Vineyard Haven musician had carved out a comfortable life for himself, playing the islandâs lucrative wedding circuit, serving as music director at Grace Church, and gigging at bars and other venues with his reggae-infused cover band, The Grateful Dread.
One year after the onset of the pandemic, however, Nagy has seen his performance schedule evaporate. His income has shrunk to less than a quarter of what it was before the COVID-19 crisis. Heâs racked up an estimated $80,000 in credit card debt. And although he had been trying to make ends meet doing construction, that came to a crashing halt last summer when he cut off his little finger while sawing a piece of oak. VT Sounds, A Bash to Bring Back Vermont Music, a streaming concert to keep music alive in Vermont. All proceeds will go to the
New England Musicians Relief Fund (NEMRF), an organization that provides grants to working musicians facing financial difficulties. VT Sounds will be broadcast from ZenBarn on Friday, January 22 at 8:00 PM EST. Anyone can watch the show on the Facebook and Youtube pages of Zenbarn and the NEMRF. There is no cost to view the stream, but donations are encouraged.
