Senators voted down a proposal that would have allowed women who became pregnant after being raped to qualify for an abortion without reporting the rape to police.
A Senate committee declined to recommend a bill that would have removed the requirement that women report being raped to police in order to qualify for an abortion.
Utah lawmakers are advancing a pair of abortion bills to clamp down, clarify and in some areas of code further restrict Utah’s abortion laws. Both bills would also completely strip out Utah’s rape and incest exemption after 18 weeks of pregnancy.
