Musicians engage with listeners in novel ways

Musicians engage with listeners in novel ways Updated: Updated: May 27, 2021 22:17 IST Artistes are coming up with researched and thematic ideas to connect more deeply with online listeners Share Article AAA Artistes are coming up with researched and thematic ideas to connect more deeply with online listeners With time on their hands and normalcy nowhere in sight, Carnatic musicians are busy creating interesting and thematic music series on YouTube. Unlike during the first lockdown, which saw a surfeit of random and generally poor quality programming in a frenetic need to stay visible, these series are more about researching the nuances, knowledge-sharing, and documentation. Backed by the latest technology, the professionally produced series offer excellent options for musicians to engage with listeners in the absence of live concerts.

Svatantra Festival pays tribute to T.N. Krishnan

The ongoing Svatantra 2021 festival is dedicated to maestro T.N. Krishnan The ARTery is dedicating its recently inaugurated Svatantra 2021 festival to the late violinist Prof. T.N. Krishnan. Professionally recorded, hour-long concerts by several recognised artistes will be released every fortnight for about 15 Sundays, culminating with Krishnan’s first death anniversary in November. Ramanathan Iyer, who has curated the series, says, “ each performance will feature one major piece – it could be a kriti, a varnam, a pallavi. The pieces are painstakingly selected to showcase as much variety as possible across banis, composers, ragas, etc. They will be presented by vocal and instrumental artistes, representing different styles, with careful attention paid to ensure that not only are the compositions highlighted but the beauty of the instruments as well.”
