communicating those to russia very, very clearly. at the same time saying, look, we re got going to interfere with your base in sevastopol or influence in kiev. mitt romney would have told putin there would have been sanctions if he invaded ukraine. that s his big idea. a sanctions warning. that appears to be. president obama, of course, did put sanctions on russia. today along with allies in g-7 threatened further sanction and canceled plans to attend the g-8 summit in russia later this year effectively kicking russia out of the g-8. if you take away the critique of the maximalism what exactly romney would like us to do differently. governing is finding ways to deal with messy and difficult real world situation. no matter mitt romney and john mccain and sarah palin want to pretend otherwise, tough talk and posturing are not sources of american geopolitical strength and not the way out of this crisis. so next time around, maybe skip that victory lap.
