Erin O Neil Resigns as Kansas Women s Golf Coach – Kansas Jayhawks

LAWRENCE, Kan. – After 17 seasons, Kansas women’s golf coach Erin O’Neil has resigned from her post to move out of state to be closer to her family, O’Neil announced Friday. “Throughout the past 14 months of this pandemic, the challenges and adversity we have all faced has certainly changed the way we look at what is important in life. For many of us, that is family,” O’Neil said. “Specifically, for me, that’s my parents who live in Florida. With the stay-at-home orders for many months, I was not able to be around my parents to give them the support they deserve at this point in their lives. While this is a very difficult and bittersweet decision, I have decided to step away from coaching the KU women’s golf team. I know this is the right decision because it will allow me to spend more time with my family and pursue other professional opportunities.”

Goggin and Team Summit Executive Director CB Bechtel have seen that approach and positive attitude manifest across the organization’s teams and athletes, and specifically in the freeskiers and snowboarders who have qualified for Rev Tour contests in the coming weeks. “I’m just really excited for the future,” Goggin said. “We believe in long-term athletic development, and seeing that unfold through many years with hard work as well as rest. This has been exciting to take part in. It’s not one day, or competition that matters, but progress over many years.”

Local youth athletes grow skills despite nationals cancellation

Bechtel said it was encouraging that Team Summit was able to host its first race series of the season at Breckenridge Ski Resort on Monday, Jan. 11 and Tuesday, Jan. 12. Bechtel described the race season as “normal, just being run a little bit different.” Bechtel said Team Summit mogul skiers were also able to compete in Aspen this weekend, their second competition of the season. The organization’s snowboard and freeski athletes are the most affected by the cancellation of the national competition.
