well taketaken. just this week we had furlough notices go out to civilian employees of the defense department. these are people who do important jobs but who are civilian workers. 800,000 affected across the country. a lot here in my home state of minnesota. they got furlough notices and they re extremely upset. i also met with a federal judge yesterday who i called and asked him how are sequestration affecting you? and we re going to see significant cuts to the public defender system. you know, in the united states we have a right to counsel if you cannot afford one. that s gideon v. wainwright. the way the cuts are coming down, this core right is in jeopardy when you look at all the days furloughs going to affect federal public defenders, not to mention people on pretrial release, not to mention other important aspects of court administration. that means people s cases being delayed. this means people, perhaps, being released who shouldn t be.
