The UK was previously bound by the £45 cap on contactless payments enforced by the EU.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak, said: As we begin to open the UK economy and people return to the high street, the contactless limit increase will make it easier than ever before for people to pay for their shopping, providing a welcome boost to retail that will protect jobs and drive growth across the capital.

The furlough scheme has offered support to nearly 10million people, providing them with financial support if they have been affected by the COVID-19 crisis. Many employers have been forced to place their workers on furlough due to lockdown measures implemented to stop the spread of the pandemic. However, there are rules which must be abided by when it comes to the scheme, including employees not being permitted to work for the company in question while on furlough.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, has extended the scheme already so it runs up until the end of April 2021. Mr Sunak said the move would provide “certainty for millions of jobs and businesses”. Announcing the measures to the House of Commons, the Chancellor said: “Our package of support for businesses and workers continues to be one of the most generous and effective in the world – helping our economy to recover and protecting livelihoods across the country.
